The Beauty of Bees

Buzzing around, oh so busy making delicious honey, succulent royal jelly and multi-use beeswax. Bees are amazing creatures-a small wonder they can fly! They are the only insect that makes food for humans, they communicate by dancing and the female bee is the only one with a stinger. Sugar deliciousness, dancing and female empowerment. We need to protect these little fliers-which is exactly what Haagen Dazs is helping to do. Do not swat at them, feel their wing breeze instead!
“If a bee hovers over your hand, you can feel a gentle breeze from the little wings.” Bob Erck. Now on my list to feel/do before I die: feel a bee’s wings breeze.

Here is what you can do from the hard-labors of these little creatures:

Honey made to feed baby bees (larva) has many useful properties-antimicrobial (which can aid in healing), antiviral, and a natural preservative (so it requires to synthetic preservatives to keep it from spoiling). Put it in:
Honey is also one of nature’s most delicious natural sweeteners-add a bit to lightly sweeten your antioxidant rich green tea (search for post on green tea and link it here to the word green tea). Ingesting honey from your local area can help prevent allergy season woes by giving your body small amounts of pollen and other reactants so you will not suffer as much when Mother Nature is in full bloom.
Put it on:
Honey is hydrophilic, meaning it is a natural humectant that attracts and holds skin’s moisture, particularly effective on dry skin and hair.
Two recipes to try:
Mix 1 tsp honey into favorite shampoo to add a bit of moisture without weighing your hair down.
For dry skin mix 1 tsp honey and 1 tsp yogurt. Pat on face & then rinse.

Royal jelly is packed with fatty-acids, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant properties. .
Put it in: The anti-inflammatory properties can be enjoyed both internally and externally. It contains soothing pantothenic acid (Vit B5), a nutrient vital to the function of the adrenal gland which promotes clear, healthy skin.
Put it on: Royal jelly promotes cellular rejuvenation, which makes skin look brighter and firmer. It also fights inflammation, so it can reduce or eliminate breakouts and is a great remedy from hives, psoriasis and eczema.

Beeswax-has same antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as honey and royal jelly, but to lesser degree. It also has the ability to repel water. Beeswax is the most sustainable of hive products because bees produce it constantly.
Put it on: Used in products to thicken and bind. Makes a most effective lip protection because it forms a protective barrier between the skin and its environment. It is the star player in natural waterproof sunblock because of its ability to repel water.

So, the next time you see one of our little friends buzzing about, staying busy and flying free, allow it to pass on by with a blessing from you and thanks for all it does!

Keep in mind: Do NOT feed honey to children under 1 year of age
