A letter to Sugar

My nemesis

My love

Granulated goodness

You are like Ritalin to an ADD soul

Like an abusive lover

You call to me from darkened cabinets

To indulge, savor, soothe

I feel moments of pleasure, peace

And then, soon after, the pain

My throat burns

My mind starts to race

I can’t sit still

I snap in anger

Short-tempered red hot rage

My lips and mouth dry out

My skin breaks out

Why do I voluntarily consume

It’s killing me

I hurt those I love on it

I am an addict

When will it (I) stop?
